What every price includes
The amounts in the table are starting prices for our complete service. For a car, a van up to 3,500 kg, a motorcycle, scooter or moped, or a trailer up to 3,500 kg, prices start at €100, for a caravan at €150 and for a truck, a motorhome or any other vehicle above 3,500 kg at €180. There are no separate charges for the plates, the policy or the green card, and the price is the same whether you request online or collect by appointment at our Hengelo office. Each price includes:
- The temporary Dutch export insurance: third-party liability cover for 14 days from the start date you choose.
- The green card (international motor insurance card) as a PDF by e-mail, valid in 43 countries, including every EU and EEA country.
- The white Dutch export plates: 2 for a car, van, truck or motorhome, 1 for a motorcycle, caravan or trailer.
- An invoice, in your company's name if you wish, also for companies outside the Netherlands.
Why the export insurance price is a starting price
The final price depends on three things: the type of vehicle, its empty weight (unladen weight) and its year of manufacture. The type comes first, because the insurance category follows the vehicle type: it is the category shown as a letter on the green card, such as A for a car, B for a motorcycle or C for a lorry or tractor, and the green card page lists them all. Within that category, the empty weight and the year of manufacture set the exact price. The amounts on this page are the minimum for each vehicle type, so the price for your vehicle can be higher than the starting price in the table. That is why we first check the vehicle using the registration number and only then send the exact price together with the payment details: you never pay before you know the amount. A photo of the registration certificate helps us check these details straight away, especially for motorhomes, trucks and other heavy vehicles.
What is not included: the RDW export deregistration
Every price excludes the RDW export deregistration and the RDW export document that follows from it, in Dutch kentekenbewijs deel 2 or uitvoerverklaring. You receive that document once the vehicle has been reported for export at the RDW, the Dutch vehicle authority. The seller or another RDW-recognised export company can do this, or we can do it for you: at our office in Hengelo the export deregistration costs €50 per vehicle during opening hours, the same for every vehicle type. For this you need the Dutch number plates, which you hand in, the registration card with the tenaamstellingscode and a driving licence, identity card or passport, but not the vehicle itself. Outside office hours, or remotely, when only the Dutch number plates come to us by post and the papers by e-mail or WhatsApp, the deregistration costs more; ask us for the price.
Also outside our price: registration costs and taxes in your own country, fuel, tolls and ferries. Our part is the insurance and the plates for the drive; registering the vehicle at home is up to you. How the two fit together is explained on the page about Dutch export plates with insurance.
Delivery by post: €50 per shipment
If you cannot collect the plates in Hengelo, DHL Express delivers them to any address in Europe with track & trace. The surcharge is €50 per shipment, which covers the administration, the DHL Express service and the tracking. With delivery, the totals start at €150 for a car, van, motorcycle or trailer, €200 for a caravan and €230 for a truck or motorhome. Complete, paid requests submitted from Monday to Thursday are delivered by DHL Express within 1 working day throughout Europe, with tracking. For requests on Friday, at weekends or on public holidays, contact us to confirm the expected delivery date. Collection in Hengelo is by appointment only. Ordering plates for several vehicles to the same address? They travel together in one shipment, so you pay the €50 surcharge only once. Everything about delivery is on the page export plates by post.
Outside opening hours and business invoices
Office visits are by appointment only, including Monday to Saturday from 09:00 to 17:00. Appointments outside this standard-rate period are also available 24/7, for buyers who arrive late in the evening or want to leave early on a Sunday. A higher rate may apply; ask for the amount before you book.
Dealers, traders and transport companies can receive a business invoice in the name of their company, also when the company is based outside the Netherlands. Send us the company name, address and VAT number with your request and we will prepare the invoice together with the policy. On the page about our office in Hengelo you can read how the visit works.
How payment works, step by step
Online, payment works in four simple steps. At the office everything happens on the spot: you pay and leave with the plates and the green card, with no extra charge for a visit during opening hours.
- You send the registration number, your name, the destination country and the start date via WhatsApp, e-mail or the online request form.
- We check the vehicle type, empty weight and year of manufacture, confirm the exact price and send you the payment details.
- After payment we issue the export insurance and e-mail the green card as a PDF.
- You collect the plates in Hengelo, or DHL Express delivers them to the address you gave us.
What export plates cost per vehicle type
- Car (from €100, 2 plates): from a small city car to a large SUV, as long as it is not above 3,500 kg.
- Van or light commercial vehicle up to 3,500 kg (from €100, 2 plates): heavier vans fall under the truck rate.
- Truck, lorry or tractor unit and any vehicle above 3,500 kg (from €180, 2 plates): buses and heavy vans too.
- Motorcycle, scooter or moped (from €100, 1 plate): from a 50 cc moped to a large touring bike.
- Caravan (from €150, 1 plate): the caravan needs its own policy, separate from the car that tows it.
- Motorhome or camper (from €180, 2 plates): also above 3,500 kg, and also for a camper that is registered as a van.
- Trailer up to 3,500 kg (from €100, 1 plate): also for light trailers under 750 kg without their own registration, whose white plate, made by us, carries the towing vehicle's registration number with its country code. Heavy trailers and semi-trailers above 3,500 kg start at €180, also with 1 plate.
